Did You Know? Our Church Catch us on TV: The Fishkill UMC worship service can be seen on Cablevision, Tuesdays at 7:00 PM, Channel 21. Please call the church by Wednesday if you want any information included in the Sunday bulletin. This includes information found in "This Week at the Church." To join our theater/performing group, please contact N. Barber or Pastor Peggy Ann (896-9108). A Daily Bible Reading Guide and the Upper Room are available in the Narthex. Please pick up a copy. We have room for all! If you arrive late, or the pews look full, or you have small children with you, you are invited to sit in Fellowship Hall and watch the worship service on TV. We do request that any children be accompanied by a parent or responsible adult. Infants and toddlers may be left with the attendant in the child care room, where another TV shows the worship service. Audio tapes of all services are available for loan. If you know you’ll miss a service, feel free to reserve the copy ahead of time. We buy "fair trade" coffee for our fellowship time after worship. Come to coffee hour and learn more about fair trade. Listen to WHUD 100.7 FM, WBNR 1260 AM, WLNA 1420 AM, or K104.7 FM for church cancellations due to inclement weather. Remember to check or add to the "Cares and Shares" board in the stairwell to keep abreast of members' prayer requests and thanksgivings during the week. There are postcards in the Narthex which you may use to let someone know we prayed for them today. We have a First Aid Kit on each floor: upper hallway, kitchen, and preschool. Missions Vacationers: We continue to donate mini toiletries to Hudson River Housing. You may leave them in the Lunch Box donation barrels. Thank you. (No coffee, please.) The complete UMCOR Hotline Newsletter is on the rolling bulletin board in Fellowship Hall. The tsunami that washed over western sections of the Solomon Islands in April 2007 was small by some standards, but for the more than 11,300 people displaced from 13 remote communities, it was devastating. Survivors are receiving relief supplies, temporary shelters, tools and trauma counseling thanks to an UMCOR grant to Action by Churches Together, the international relief consortium. Please help with your gifts to UMCOR Advance #982450, International Disaster Response. Flood buckets are en route from UMCOR Sager Brown, the relief supply depot, to North and Central Texas annual conference workers who are surveying flood damage in their communities. Hundreds of people were stranded on their rooftops as water rose after overnight rains swamped towns. One of the two United Methodist churches in Gainesville is serving as a shelter. UMCOR is in close contact with responders as the recovery unfolds. You can help with gifts to UMCOR Advance #901670 Domestic Disaster Response, or #901440 Material Resource. Since 1992, Africa University, the only United Methodist degree-granting university in Africa, has served and graduated hundreds of men and women from 20 countries. It is nurtured and funded by United Methodists through the Africa University Fund apportionment. This apportioned fund supports ongoing operations, including building maintenance, utilities, classroom equipment and supplies, faculty and staff salaries, and other operational expenses. The Story of the Black College Fund Apportionment in The United Methodist Church: Since 1972, the Black College Fund has supported the programs and ministries of 11 historically Black colleges and universities. It is nurtured and funded by United Methodists through the Black College Fund apportionment. This apportioned fund supports departmental research, libraries, operations and physical plant maintenance. It also supports capital expenditures such as new buildings, major remodeling projects and endowments. The importance of this apportioned fund is how it affects the lives of students. These 11 historically Black colleges and universities provide opportunities for many students of promise who otherwise might be excluded from the educational process. They provide a high-quality education and produce many African-American leaders in the United States and in the church. Bennett College Bethune-Cookman College, Claflin University Clark Atlanta University, Dillard University Huston-Tillotson University, Meharry Medical College Paine College, Philander Smith College Rust College, and Wiley College. You can direct a gift to the Black College Fund by writing a check to Fishkill United Methodist Church, with "Black College Fund" on the memo line. The World Service Fund apportionment is the heart of our denomination-wide presence, underwriting Christian mission and ministry around the world. It enables United Methodists to reach out through the general church boards and agencies. In the southwest Philippines, The United Methodist Church works with other denominations to empower rural populations to improve their communities. Five full-time staff members work with area churches to recruit local representatives from church youth programs. Educational seminars and defined missions focus on cross-cultural experiences, decision-making and advocacy skills. Empowered by information and education, uplifted by caring support and spiritual guidance, these Philippine communities have a chance to fight the crushing burden of poverty. Together, through the World Service Fund apportionment, we change lives in the name of Christ.
